Foot-and-Mouth Disease Intrudes, Putting Britain Farmers in Dread
To prevent the spread of the disease – which rarely affects humans but can be carried by people, cars, clothes, manure, water, hay and even the wind – officials have declared many parts of the country off limits to campers, hikers and sightseers.
